Misleading SMS sent to over 10 lakh customers
What was in the message?
Term Policy Premiums to increase from April 2020 - Aise messages agar aapko pichle saal March aur April ke beech me aaye honge, to fir aap bhi is misinformation campaign ke victim hai.
IRDAI, matlab India ke Insurance Regulatory Authority ka kehna ye hai ki aise SMS messages lagbhag 10 lakh customers ko gaye hai. Jab IRDAI ne policy bazaar ko iske baare me poocha to unhone do jawab diye
1. Policybazaar ke Insurance partners ne unko notify kiya tha ki April 2020 se Term Plans ke premium me increment hone wala hai. Ye insurance partners the HDFC Life, Tata AIA Life and ICICI Prudential.
2. Trai ke regulationke hisaab se 6 character ka limit hota hai Message Header me. Isliye unhone message header me POLBAZ use kiya, naaki apna poora naam Policybazaar.
Which rules were violated?
Non-disclosure of company name in SMS messages
IRDAI regulation 11 and 9
IRDAI ka kehna ye hai ki company agar fair practices ko use karna chahti thi, to wo SMS ke body of the text me Policybazaar mention kar sakti thi. Lekin aisa na karna non-disclosure hai.
Aur iske saath saath 10 lakh customers ko bulk messages karna is equivalent to creating panic among customers about the impending price rise. Lekin in 10 lakh customers ke individual term plans ke premiums me koi increment naho hone waala tha. Isliye ye ek panic create karke business generate karne ka tareeka tha jo IRDAI ke policies ko violate karta hai.

Agar aap ko bhi aise misleading information aata hai, chahe wo SMS ke through aaye, Insurance ya financial companies ke through aaye, ya fir Telecom companies ke through, jaha par price rise ka darr dikhakar aapko kuch khareedne ke liye bola jaa raha hai to apne responisbility ko nibhate hue usko authorities yaani Telecom ke liye - TRAI, Broadcast Shows ke liye INformation and Broadcast Ministry of India, Aviation ke liye Civil Aviation Ministry, Trading ke liye SEBI, Banking ke liye RBI, Insurance ke liye IRDAI ko report kijiye. Policy bajar india ka ek bahut bda online insurance, mutual fund ka marketplace hai .
